Fengjing enjoys a long history. Over 2000 years ago, people have lived here. It became an official town and named as BaiNiu Town in the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368). Demarcated by the boundary river in the center of the town, which was also the boundary of the Wu and Yue kingdom during the Spring and Autumn period,Fengjing is also known as the roots of Wu and Yue kingdom. During the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), it was governed separately by Zhejiang and Jiangsu Provinces from 1430’s. Until the year of 1951, Fengjing was ended this partition history, and it became part of Jinshan District in 1967. With its surrounding water network, the town boasts 52 bridges, and the oldest one was over 700 years. In the town, we will see many old buildings, of which most are of the Ming and Qing style. They are mainly two-story structures of brick and timber with white washed walls and black-tile-covered roofs. Known as ‘Home of Chinese folk painting’ the Jinshan Peasant’s Painting originated and flourished in Fengjing. With a unique art style, it has great influence at home and abroad. And one will also can find some temples of Taoism and Buddhism, as well as Catholic and other Christian churches, which is seldom seen in south China. If you are a fan of authentic Chinese water town, local people’s way of life, the local food, etc. Fengjing is worth a visit to discover the old culture and customs of China.

Itinerary
In the Morning, we will drive from downtown (or your hotel) to the Fengjing water town. After around 1.5hrs , we will arrive the town, and going to visit Jinpu Old house, Ding Pork Work shop, Dingcong Cartoon Gallery, Three-Hundred Yuan, People’s Commune, etc. After these visiting these spots, an ancient style boat will give us a drive in this old boundary canal.
Lunch will be arranged in the one of the most famous restaurants in the Jinshan Peasants’ Painters Village—Zhonghong Courtyard, we will enjoy the local farm cuisine.
After the lunch, we will work to the Jinshan Peasants’ Painting village, which is only 3 minutes away from the restaurant. In the village, many local artists live inside, we will have a basic lesson about the Peasant’s Painting , and do one for ourselves. After the free time, our bus will take us back to downtown Shanghai, and finish one day tour in Fengjing. |
