Mt. Putuo is one of four famous Buddhist mountains in China and a must visit place for Buddhists in Zhejiang Province. Mt. Putuo is a small island off the coast. The trip takes around 3 hours by yacht directly from Shanghai.
As a well-known Buddhist temple, Mt. Putuo was a religious place for Taoist in Qin dynasty ( 221B.C.-207B.C.). In 847A.D. of Tang dynasty, a monk came to Chaoyin Cave and learnt the sutra form Buddha Guanyin. Form then, it became famous among the religious believers and prospered gradually. In its peak, there were over 4,000 monks staying at Mt. Putuo and considered as the Buddhist Kingdom of China.
Mt.Putuo is not only a famous spot for the religious, but also a hot spot for sightseeing and vacation. Mt. Putuo, surrounded by sea, enjoys a fascinating view and is considered as" the most tranquil land on earth". Mountains, rocks, forest, Buddhist pagoda, cliff sculptures, sound from the monks in temple and waves make the land mysterious. Besides, the flourished trees, bird¡¯s twitter and flower¡¯s flavor, rich sunshine make the land a fairy state as well. |
