Changzhou, lies in the center of the Yangtze River Delta and the south of Jiangsu Province. It covers an area of 4,180 sq. km. and houses over 3.4million people.
Changzhou has a history over 2,500 years with the profound and splendid culture. As early as 547 B.C. in the Spring and Autumn Period, the local people built the city and named it Yan Lin. Another name was Dragon City. The name Changzhou firstly appeared in Sui dynasty (581 A.D.-618 A.D.).
For the superior position, Changzhou plays an important role in transportation system of the Grand Canal. It became a grain transit center from the southern China to the northern China in Sui and Tang dynasties ( 581A.D.-907A.D.). It was said that almost 420,000 tons of grain was transferred to the north every year in Song dynasty from here. The situation was not changed until 1825 A.D. in Qing dynasty when the ocean shipping route was developed. In 1980s, Changzhou became a stunning industry star. As a result, the city¡¯s developing mode was regarded as a typical pattern in China which affected the surrounding regions. Besides, Changzhou is also a hot spot for tourists and famous for its religious buildings, wild nature and themed park, such as Tian Ning Temple, Tian Mu Lake and China Dinosaur Park. |
