Longsheng Terraced Fields
The famous and fabulous Longsheng terraced fields lies in Longji Mountain in Guangxi province, 80km away from Guilin.
Longji Mountain is approximately 1000m high above the sea level which has the gradient between 26 and 35 degrees. The amazing and huge terraced fields are scattered between 300 and 1100m above the sea level. It covers a whole area of 66 sq. km. and consists of Ping An and Jin Ken. This special irrigation system is very typical in southwestern China. The fields, extending from the foot of mountain to the top, looks like trumpet shell or pagoda from which we can imagine the wisdom and greatness of human being.
According to the historic records, Longsheng terraced fields were cultivated in Yuan dynasty and finished in Qing dynasty which has a history over 700 years. It was said the ancestors was immigrated from Shan Dong province to flee from the wars in late Song dynasty. In honor of the hometown, they still preserve the special decoration of hat with the blue and white color.
Besides the spectacular scale, Longsheng terraced fields is famous for its seasonal views. In the spring, all farmers are busy for the farming and starting the yearly cultivation. In the summer, all the fields are covered by the young green plant. The autumn is the harvest season. You will be surprised by the gold yellow rice sea. In the winter, you will be lucky to see the countless pieces of fields covered by snow which looks likes the white jade.
