Leifeng Pagoda


The original pagoda was built in 977 A.D. in Song dynasty by the king of Wu & Yue State to pray for peaceful and rich life. With 7 stories and flying cornice, the building was made of wood and brick. After its establishment, it was considered as the landmark of the West Lake. Meanwhile, Leifeng Pagoda Silhouette against of the Sunset was inscribed as the Top 10 Views of the West Lake.

However, the famous pagoda was damaged for many times by wars or anthropic factors in its history and finally collapsed in 1924. The pagoda existing now was rebuilt in 2002 by the local government. At present, the pagoda is not only a museum, but also a good place to get a panoramic view of the West Lake.
