Three Pools Mirroring the Moon
Over 900 years ago, Su Dongpo, a great poet and the governor of Hangzhou, had the west lake dredged. Then three pagodas were built to mark the three deepest points in the lake. Meanwhile, he issued an order to forbid planting lotus among the three pagodas. The nearby island is the largest and most famous one of the islands in the West Lake
These stone pagodas were first built in 1,089 A.D. in the Song Dynasty. On a moonlit night, the pagodas are reflected on the water, forming the wonderful illusion of one moon in the sky having three reflections in the lake. It is considered as one of the TOP 10 Views in the West Lake.
