Xishuang Banna
Xishuang Banna is the southernmost prefecture of Yunnan Province. The prefecture is nicknamed “Aerial Garden” for its luxuriant and multi-layered primitive woods and tropical rain forests. Known as a huge natural zoo, Xishuang Banna's rain forest and monsoon jungles provide a habitat (home) for nearly 1,000 species of animal. Thirteen species of wild life enjoy state protection, including the red-necked cranes and green peacocks. For the people of Dai ethnic group, the green peacocks are a symbol of peace, happiness and good luck. The region also has 5,000 kinds of plants among which the most fascinating is the “color changing flower”. Its color changes several times a day.
