Jing'an Temple

 

Jing’an Temple is one of the renowned ancient temples. It was originally situated in riverside of Wusong river and moved to the place of Nanjing road in 1216 A.D. It has a history around 780 years which is earlier than the establishment of Shanghai. In late Qing dynasty, the temple reached its peak.
 
In 1862, the foreigners built its race course in the area and extended to Jing’an Temple which indirectly made it as the center of the transportation network of western Shanghai. For the famous Buddhist festival in Jing’an Temple and the convenient transportation, it attracted large quantities of visitors. Gradually, it grew into a commercial zoon. In 1930s, it became a famous business area in Shanghai.
