Shaxi Ancient town
Sha xi town locates in the centre of Taicang, Jiangsu Province which is only 50 KM away from Hong qiao Airport of Shanghai. With many highways, it is very convenient to reach here.
It was called Yin xi in the ancient time with an area of 132.14 square KM and 21 villages under administrative jurisdiction. This town was built at the beginning of the Yuan Dynasty. Many rich and powerful persons had once lived there and their residences were called “eight scenic spots of Sha xi” at that time. With the development of economy in Ming and Qing Dynasty, there appeared a lot of merchants who need some places for their business. Therefore, many buildings were built along the Qi pu river which formed a unique history landscape of delicate bridges, flowing waters and deep lanes. As a typical water town with long history and unique landscape, Sha xi town is called “the first town of the eighteen southeast towns”.
