Taicang Port
It was originally called Liujia Port in ancient times. It was an important and famous port for China to trade with overseas countries and once entitled with “Port of Six Countries”. It was the site that Zheng He, the greatest navigator in ancient China, started his famous sea voyages seven times and reached over 30 countries and regions as far as Africa, putting down a brilliant chapter for China’s opening-up to foreign countries in ancient times and in world navigation history.
Tai cang was a unique natural harbor at Yangtze River Estuary. Its 38.8 kilometers of Yangtze River Coastline provides the condition to build as many as 100 deep water berths for vessels over 10,000 tons. The deep water area of Yangtze River Shipping Tunnel enables vessels of 50,000 tons turning around.
