Situated in the middle of Zhejiang Province in eastern China, the bustling city of Yiwu is home to a population of 1.8 million people. It is famous as the largest Small Ware Distribution Center and No.1 Trading Mart in the world.
With a history over 2,200 years, Yiwu was firstly called Wushang county in 222.B.C.of the Spring and Autumn Period. It was famous as a land full of sagas and legends of national heroes who had defeated the foreign invaders. However, the new era of Yiwu began in 1980s. In 1982, the local government made a big decision to permit the registration of small private business, allowed the farmers to do business and opened the mart between the city and town for the first time ever while all the policies were not practiced in other places in China. With 20 years¡¯ development, Yiwu has grown into an international mart.
Now, Yiwu is the biggest international mart of smallware, especially for textiles, ornaments, toy. It is considered as "Paradise for Shopping". Whether you¡¯re for personal use or a container load for export, you¡¯ll find almost every product in the city¡¯s massive markets. |
